Key factors of Your Needed Winter Skin Regimen with EltaMD® Skin Care

Key factors of Your Needed Winter Skin Regimen with EltaMD® Skin Care

By Amy Lignor

The cold winds and freezing temperatures of winter have arrived in many parts of the U.S. EltaMD® wants to help you protect your skin from seasonal dryness, cracking and itch aggravated by winter conditions.

EltaMD® is dedicated to helping people establish a practical and effective skin care regimen using their unique and innovative products. EltaMD® dermatologist-recommended skin care product line has specialized formulas for every skin type. For enthusiasts of the winter lifestyle, EltaMD® is a great resource to learn more when it comes to your skin care needs.

Winter sun, frigid temperatures, whipping winds, and even dry indoor heating can actually strip your skin of moisture and can leave your face and hands feeling tight, dry, and irritated.

Keeping your skin healthy and hydrated all day long in the winter months is recommended. Start every morning with an effective facial moisturizer. The EltaMD® Barrier Renewal Complex helps maintain soft and supple skin in the colder months while promoting a more youthful appearance all year round. It restores the vibrant glow of youth by improving the tone and texture of your skin. With five unique ceramides that replenish moisture loss and increase water retention, lines and wrinkles are visibly softened.

A fact that is often forgotten in the winter is the damage the sun can cause to your skin.   Up to 80% of the sun’s rays can penetrate light clouds, snow, and even fog. Over time, that exposure can lead to moles, wrinkles, and skin cancers. So even on those cloudy or overcast days, using sunscreen to protect your skin helps prevent the signs of early aging and skin cancer, says the American Cancer Society.

EltaMD® offers a line of superior sun protection formulas designed for year-round use by all skin types and ages. Specially formulated with transparent zinc oxide, EltaMD® sunscreens provide long-lasting UVA and UVB protection with broad-spectrum SPF ratings from 30 to 50. Highly recommended by dermatologists and plastic surgeons, EltaMD® is the best-selling physician-dispensed sunscreen in the U.S., according to an assessment by Kline & Company*.

Lip protection during winter pursuits is another issue to consider. In winter, whether skiing or simply taking care of outdoor chores, lips can easily chap. Wearing lip balm is essential when it comes to good winter skin care. EltaMD® UV Lip Balm Broad-Spectrum SPF 31 is perfect for protecting and soothing dry, chapped lips. Formulated with transparent zinc oxide and nourishing antioxidants, it combats the harmful effects of damaging UVA and UVB rays. Olive oil and vitamin E team up to condition and replenish moisture, making your lips silky-soft while providing long-lasting comfort

Effective facial cleansing is especially important during the winter when icy road debris and other environmental contaminants are prevalent. The EltaMD® Foaming Facial Cleanser is an oil-free, pH-balanced formula that offers gentle cleansing without irritating or drying your skin. This gentle face wash contains bromelain and apple amino acids that act to remove makeup, excess oil, and impurities. Your skin’s natural moisture is retained, leaving your skin clean, smooth and soft.

If dealing with oily or acne-prone skin, EltaMD® AM Therapy Facial Moisturizer will allow you adequate hydration without clogging pores or worsening acne. Garnering rave reviews from consumers and physicians alike, this oil-free moisturizer applies silky smooth and is non-greasy. Containing the perfect ingredients, like hyaluronic acid to help the skin retain essential moisture and enhance suppleness, it is fragrance-free and noncomedogenic—making it suitable for oily or combination skin types. Because it also contains vitamin B-3, it is the perfect facial moisturizer for those with rosacea. Its anti-inflammatory properties minimize the appearance of redness.

As you head into this winter season, whether skiing on the slopes or huddled-up by a fire, make sure to protect your skin with the full line of EltaMD® products as you pursue your fun in winter’s wonderland.

If the Weather Outside is Frightful…It’s Time to Ski

If the Weather Outside is Frightful…It’s Time to Ski

by Amy Lignor

The first storm, Argos, came in as thunder snow in some areas of the Northeast and added a bit of sound to the first real snowfall of the winter season. Now those sitting on the Great Lakes are used to snowfall, wintertime fun, skiing, hit the slopes, ski destinations, chalets, happy holidaysthe lake effect storms that come in and drop foot after foot; yet, not long before Argos swept in were they enjoying 60-degree temperatures. In other words, this winter storm was something of a shock, ushering in the season with a whole lot of power right before Thanksgiving.

“A” has come and gone, with some New Englanders having a spot of warmer weather yet again. But, as we all know the ‘ABC’s’ of winter storms has just begun (“Blanche” has already come our way), and by the time it all comes to a close, most are just hoping that the Weather Channel is not talking about how winter storm “Zebra” just dealt a crushing blow to the country in April, 2017.

There are many things to do when the weather outside becomes frightful. Many would vote for staying in because it’s far more “delightful.” Don’t believe me? Listen to the Christmas carol. But there are a niche of others who think that snow is just about the best thing there is. They wait for a good, long time every year to be back amongst the falling flakes, because that’s the time they can strap boards to their feet and head down a snow-packed mountain.

Make the reservations now, people. Because the best ski destinations are up and running and already receiving visitors on a daily basis. Where are those, you ask? Sit back and warm up the Internet, as we begin with quite a popular spot to find luxurious skiing. Welcome to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Consistently found on Top Ten lists for best skiing vacations, Jackson Hole’s perfectly chilly temperatures and powder-covered mountains call out to the avid skier and those who love to do their snowboarding tricks. Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is atop the preferred spots to stay, but Snow King and others are just as grand and just as beloved.

If looking for beauty 360 degrees no matter where you’re standing at the time, Lake Tahoe is there for you. The Heavenly Ski Area is just like its name, and ski lovers from all over the U.S. make reservations as fast as possible to get in while the getting’s good.

Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort is perfect when looking to take in Salt Lake City and all the snowy slopes that once helped America go for gold in 2002. Skiing, snowboarding – perfect for one and all.

The state of Colorado is famous for many desirable ski locales, and Telluride Ski Resort is one of them. Telluride, itself, draws skiers in with its 147+ trails and a 4,425-foot vertical drop (not recommended for beginners, of course). The chalets to be found in Mountain Village are stunning, making Telluride a premier spot for both outdoor and indoor lovers.

There are lots of ski destinations in the East that should not be overlooked. One is the Finger Lakes, a region in central New York that is truly a skier’s dream. Around the 11 lakes, we are talking about perfect mountain conditions because of that lake-effect snow (thank you, Argos). And for those who do not wish to risk the “agony of defeat,” so to speak, there are a ton of perfectly groomed trails that are ideal for cross-country skiers.

Breckenridge, about 80 miles southwest of Denver, Colorado, is also a beautiful expanse of terrain covering 3,000 acres with over 187 trails for skiers to choose from. And when it snows in Breckenridge, boy does it snow! With, on average, 25 feet of snow falling each and every winter, there is most definitely never a “bad” day on the slopes.

And, yes, Aspen still remains that classic ski choice. After all this time in the limelight, Aspen still caters to all ski levels, from the top-notch to the fuzziest of bunnies taking to the slopes.

Making reservations now is the tried-and-true way to make sure you can get in on the enjoyment that these ski sensations offer. And, if you’re anything like the other half of the people out there, just remember that each of these destinations also offers the most “delightful” indoor scenery you can possibly imagine. So while the skiers hit the slopes, you can enjoy everything that warm, beautiful chalet has on tap!

New Tidewater 220 LXF Stands for Luxury, Functionality

New Tidewater 220 LXF Stands for Luxury, Functionality

By Craig Lamb

Luxury and functionality are unique in a center console fishing boat, and you get both with the Tidewater 220 LXF. A boat designed for fishing with ultra comfort features for cruising and family outings.

Find luxury from stem to stern in this boat with a centerline of 22’ 2” and a ultra-wide beam of 8′ 10.” With a transom height of 25” and 18-degree deadrise the 220 LXF is built for performance with a smooth, dry ride.

A fuel capacity of 71 gallons provides the perfect balance between weight and practicality for making long runs offshore without sacrificing performance. The 220 LXF has a draft of approximately 14 inches with an overall weight of 2,700 pounds, making it ideal for inshore and offshore angling.

Tidewater Boats engineers succeeded in a designing a boat with comfortable, spacious family seating, abundant storage and all the features serious anglers seek in an offshore center console rig. Best of all, the design is family friendly when it comes time to welcome aboard passengers for a cruise.

220-lxf-suv2

Fish or play, the 220 LXF is designed to please everyone. Passengers get ultimate comfort with full-length transom seating. Bolsters at port and starboard rails add comfort and stability when fighting fish. Boarding is safe and easy with a transom door, new for this year. Wrapped inside the bow is full-length seating with hinged backrests. Seating up front is comfortable and spacious without limiting storage space underneath. Unsnap the bow cushions and get a solid casting deck when it’s fishing time.

Luxury meets functionality at the helm. A newly designed console has catchall trays for small items, and a footrest provides solid footing and comfort on choppy runs. The console design allows flush mounting of large screen electronics with ease of reading gauges for safer handling.

LED lighting is the hot trend and in high demand for offshore boats, and the 220 LXF offers abundance for style, convenience, and safety. That includes bright red and green bow lights integrated into the rail at the bow. Optional underwater lights and illuminated overhead lighting is available with T-Tops.

Center console owners like variety in optional features to rig a boat that suits their needs. The 220 LXF delivers with a long list. T-Tops are fitted with spreader lights and have overhead storage for electronics. A Porta Potti can be added, along with a pump out head, raw water wash down and fresh water shower. Other popular options are leaning post with backrest, Garmin electronics, and 12/24 volt charging system.

220_lxf1

Tidewater Boats are designed with distinctive Carolina Flair, the most in class, that provides a softer transition between chop and big waves. That sets up the dry ride, to direct waves away from the hull using reverse chines. Tidewater likes to appropriately call that feature the Dry Chine Ride.

The smooth ride comes from the wave-shock absorbency of the Corrugated Grid Stringer Vertebra. Filled with foam to reduce noise and vibration, the stringer system works like a human skeleton to create a rigid, unified construction that tightly secures all of the internal parts. Those include fuel tanks, consoles, seating and storage compartments that are fastened to the stringer system. To ensure a solid, tight fit, every stringer system is customized for each Tidewater model.

Another defining Tidewater feature is the Spray Relief Point. That is the point of impact on the hull deflecting water away from the boat. Multiple SRP areas enhance the characteristic dry ride of the Tidewater.

By taking extra steps not found in most brands, Tidewater has the confidence in providing owners a 10-year, transferable warranty that covers the hull.

Tidewater stays close to it’s saltwater roots with the manufacturing facility located in Lexington, S.C. Find out more about the complete lineup of models, and find a Tidewater dealer at tidewaterboats.com. Visit the growing community of Tidewater owners on Facebook at Tidewater Boats LLC.

Tidewater 220 CC Adventure tops in the class of 22-footers

Tidewater 220 CC Adventure tops in the class of 22-footers

By Craig Lamb

A smooth, dry ride aboard a boat built on an innovative performance hull. Built with the best materials. Uncompromised quality construction. A 22-footer designed for coastal waters with more unique features than boats in the class.

You get all of that and more with the Tidewater 220 CC Adventure. Tidewater Boats is in the business of providing owners with boats packed with features, from stem to stern, and this rig delivers it all.

Step aboard the 220 CC Adventure to find everything a coastal angler needs for a day of fishing. Yet this boat is more than a fishing rig. The clever design combines fishing features with luxury and functionality for family-friendly recreational fun. From cruising to watersports, and of course, fishing, the boat has something for everyone.

220_cc_adventure2

Within the 220 CC Adventure’s wide beam spanning 8’ 10” is a roomy cabin that gives anglers plenty of room to work, and families ample space to spread out. The boat has a transom height of 25 inches and draft of 14 inches.

Here are just two of the many unique features. Boaters will appreciate the Easy Pump Access for quick access to livewell and wash-down pumps. The compartment is located behind the optional leaning post for easy access to inspect and maintain the pumps. Ahead of the console is a large storage compartment for gear that can accept a Porta Potty.

Tidewater’s focus on ample, comfortable and quality seating in its boats is evident in the 220 CC Adventure. Snap in cushions on the port and starboard forward bench seats are surrounded by plush back rests for comfort and style. Remove the cushions for a smooth, solid casting platform. With attention to the details, there’s little chance of snagging lures on the deck, thanks to recessed handrails and cleats. You can stand on it for making pinpoint casts to visual targets. Also up front is an additional bench seat located forward of the console and storage compartment.

Anglers will like the 25-gallon blue gel-coated livewell to keep bait calm. High-speed aerator pumps maintain bait health by keeping fresh water circulating through the well. The well has a clear lid for instant inspection of the bait.

220_cc_adventure7

On some coastal rigs rod storage is an afterthought. It’s a priority for Tidewater, which realizes today’s quality rods and reels are valuable investments to anglers. Combos are secure and ready for quick access using the exclusive Rod Protection System. You get six storage racks integrated solidly into the gunwale to keep rods firmly in place and out of harm’s way.

When it comes time for a dive, swim or wakeboard adventure the 220 CC Adventure delivers the features needed for safe, convenient fun. At the stern is a walk-through transom door and boarding ladder. Adequate gear storage helps keep deck space clean and safe.

What is appealing about customizing the 220 CC Adventure to fit individual needs is the list of optional equipment. Best of all, it will be factory installed by skilled riggers at the Tidewater factory in Lexington, S.C.

You can add a 70-quart K2 Cooler below the leaning post, a Bimini Top, ski pole, freshwater shower, fold-down rear seat and upgraded sound system. Popular options for anglers include an on-board charging system, Garmin electronics, integrated tackle box, Taco 270 outriggers, and underwater lights.

Tidewater Boats are designed with distinctive Carolina Flair, setting up the dry ride, to direct waves away from the hull using reverse chines.

To ensure a solid, tight fit every stringer system is customized for each Tidewater model.

Another defining Tidewater feature is the Spray Relief Point. That is the point of impact on the hull deflecting water away from the boat. Multiple SRP areas enhance the characteristic dry ride of the Tidewater.

Composite construction, foam filled hulls, cored decks and gunwales plus much more quality design, materials and construction are extras that come with the price of a Tidewater.

By taking extra steps not found in most brands, Tidewater has the confidence in providing owners a 10-year, transferable warranty that covers the hull.

Western Skiers, Snowboarders Get an Early Start

Western Skiers, Snowboarders Get an Early Start

By Burt Carey

With snow-making machines roaring to life and storms dropping temperatures and precipitation, winter ski and snowboard enthusiasts are set to hit the slopes before Thanksgiving at resorts from California to Colorado.

Ready to handle those tens of thousands of visitors is Vail Resorts, Inc., and its subsidiaries. Vail Resorts has nine world-class mountain resorts and
Skiing, Snowboarding, Colorado, California, El Niño, world-class powder, 2015-16 season, Snow Funtwo urban ski areas, including Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge and Keystone in Colorado; Park City in Utah; Heavenly, Northstar and Kirkwood in the Lake Tahoe area of California and Nevada; Perisher in Australia; Afton Alps in Minnesota and Mt. Brighton in Michigan. The Company owns and/or manages a collection of casually elegant hotels under the RockResorts brand, as well as the Grand Teton Lodge Company in Jackson Hole, Wyo.

Vail’s resorts in California, Nevada and Colorado are preparing for openings as early as Nov. 6 and no later than Nov. 25, following several inches of snow falling from recent storms, and temperatures that make it possible to run snow-making machines.

Late in October the resort reported storms that dropped two to five inches of new snow, with weekly totals ranging from nine to 17 inches at Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge and Keystone. Additional snow and cold temperatures are forecast for the approaching week, which offer conditions suitable for snowmaking.

“Colorado’s four major resorts are ready for an incredible season,” said Pat Campbell, president of Vail Resorts Mountain Division. “Cold temperatures and the onset of our first two winter storms have been timely; with additional snowfall forecast, we anticipate great opening days,” she said. Keystone is scheduled to open Nov. 6, followed by Breckenridge Nov. 13, Vail on Nov. 20 and Beaver Creek opens Nov. 25.

Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge and Keystone collectively offer winter enthusiasts the best of Colorado’s skiing and riding, accommodations, dining, shopping, entertainment and activities. With more than 13,000 acres of combined skiable terrain across more than 650 trails, the four resorts offer unprecedented access to the slopes.

For current snow and weather conditions, additional information or to plan a vacation, visit Vail.com, BeaverCreek.com, Breckenridge.com and KeystoneResort.com.

Lake Tahoe’s Heavenly Mountain Resort, Northstar California Resort and Kirkwood Mountain Resort have already received significant snow from early season storms hitting the Sierra, with up to two feet at 8,000 feet.  Regional temperatures are forecasted to be well below average, offering ideal conditions to power up snow blowers at all three locations. Temperatures are expected to remain cold throughout the extended forecast period.

“It’s snowing in Tahoe and the temperatures are dropping so we are putting our legendary snowmaking system to work as we prepare to kick off an extraordinary 2015-16 season,” said Pete Sonntag, Tahoe region vice president and chief operating officer. “Signs of El Niño are popping up across the Sierra and we’re pulling out all the stops to provide our guests with the best early season snow conditions.”

With the West Coast’s most sophisticated, state-of-the-art snowmaking systems, Heavenly and Northstar ensure Tahoe’s most consistent and reliable snow surfaces. Coupled with its own snowmaking crew, Kirkwood’s undisputed reputation for snow depth and accumulation translates to world-class powder and the highly acclaimed big-mountain experience.

Heavenly and Northstar are slated to open for the 2015-16 season Nov. 20, and Kirkwood is scheduled to open Nov. 21. For the best prices of the season on all Tahoe passes and for more information on pass holder benefits, go online to www.snow.com.

Mastering the Cold, White World

Mastering the Cold, White World

 ~ ZZ Troutski

You think cleaning up after that white stuff is bad!

Prospect_Heights_Blizzard_NYC_2-12-06Look, the snow seems to never stop falling outside some windows this year. Even with March here and Easter being talked about, the snow-filled skies do not seem to be moving away as they should, leaving a lovely spring behind in its horrid wake. There are pictures of homes that still have hills of snow blocking their first-floor windows. So…how can you claim the snow? How can you put it in its place and master the cold, white world?

The ultimate skier (or crazy person, depending on how you look at these following locations), seems to want that hierarchy over the snow-ridden world. They want to risk life and limb to use the snow to exhilarate and excite by taking runs down slopes that not even the Abominable Snowman would want to leave his cave to walk down.

Delirium Dive is not a fake name, but it certainly seems to stand for the disease that any skier must be suffering from who wishes to stand atop that thing and actually want to ski down it. Located in SunshineVillage, Banff, Canada, this is one place that looks more like an instant death ticket for those who wish to try, but it is also one on the ‘bucket list’ of many adventurers who seem to have no fear when it comes to reigning over the snow.

This is what you would call a true free-ride zone, beginning with a horizontal rock band that funnels into a tight channel, and moves on to a ridiculous pitch (50 degrees), which calls out ‘AVALANCHE!’ to Mother Nature. Skiers must carry a radio transponder for just this emergency as they are walked through a very private gate to try it out.

When it comes to wanting that massive chute, that speed, that locale of snow and ice that allows the skier to feel as if they are flying (and they actually might be, considering the amount of skill, talent and all out courage needed to ski Corbet’s Couloir), the man or woman (or delirious person) heads to Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

You can’t blame the skiers who stand up there and change their minds. In fact, those are the ones who deserve a nice cup of coffee in the village so they can lift a glass to their common sense for letting the snow win. Epic is the term used by the ones who have approached this area. The lip of the opening precipice is legendary – a cliff face, to be exact, where the skier will have to drop approximately twenty-feet before ever placing their skis on the ground. This begins a leap of faith, but if landing right and survival is maintained than the rest of the course will seem almost cross-country.

La Grave…perhaps it will be just that? Skiers sometimes wish to leave home and venture to France just to see the massive La Meije glacier rising to 13,000 feet (plus) into the air. La Grave is there; it is the run just waiting for that extremist who wants to  ride the 7,000 vertical feet of unmarked terrain. A mountain guide is suggested; rappelling gear, ice crampons, and a radio beacon are a must; and a kiss goodbye to the family and friends is something you definitely may want to do before traveling to your G…I mean, La Grave.

If you survive the gravesite and decide there must be more – then you either head to the Black Hole in Smugglers’ Notch, Vermont…or you seek therapy just as fast as humanly possible. This is a tree slalom, to say the least. Dense land providing the only triple-black-diamond trail in the eastern part of the United States. Think, super-fast at a 50-plus-degree pitch while having the wind blow through the trees around you. Just make sure your eyesight is good and your talent is high so YOU do not blow through the trees. BAM!

In the end, you have two choices. One; stay inside and look out at the snow, sighing, yet knowing completely well that the sun will be back. OR, head out with skis and a sense of adventure to claim lordship over the snow white world. Hint: The first choice is far easier and the chances of living to see the spring increase!
